This section applies to the “Watchtime Badge: YouTube & Netflix Timer” browser extension. This tool is designed with a “Privacy by Design” approach:
- Data Collection & Purpose: The extension monitors the URLs of your active tabs solely to match them against your designated tracking list (e.g., YouTube, Netflix). This is necessary to calculate and display your viewing duration.
- Local Storage Only: All tracked viewing history and user settings are stored locally on your device using
chrome.storage.local. - No External Transmission: This extension does not collect, store, or transmit any of your browsing data, URLs, or history to external servers or any third-party services. All data stays on your machine.
- Permissions: The “tabs” permission is used only to retrieve the URL of the current tab for time matching, and the “storage” permission is used to save your history locally.
